"Romeo and Juliet" by Ford Madox Brown. This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE STEEL ENGRAVED GRAVURE from 1893, published by D. Appleton & Co. New York. This rarity is in fine condition with image and engraved titling showing through the ages! A great find...and what a classic image! It is said that Brown used his wife Emma as the model for the lovely Juliet, in the throes of a passionate kiss from her star-crossed suitor Romeo, from the famous play written by William Shakespeare. Ford Madox Brown (1821-1893) was a popular English painter in the late 19th century and was known for his scenes depicting moral and historical subjects. You will notice that this engraving of one of his most important works was released the year of his death in 1893. This is a real piece of art history, over 120 years old! Image size 11 1/2" x 8."
