""Essex" Capturing "Greenwich", 1813" by Percy Dalton. One of the legends of maritime art, Dalton lived what he painted. He went to sea in the 1930's diving for pearls, served his native Britain during World War II as a torpedo and gun sight specialist, and was well known in later years for designing and building sailing sloops and other wooden boats. For many years he had a successful career painting scenes of working boats under sail and historic scenes such as this one. It depicts the American Navy frigates "Essex" and "Essex, Jr." taking the British warship "Greenwich" in 1813. This piece is in excellent condition, and is the original European edition, now a rarity. Print image size 13 1/2" x 18". Only one in stock.
