"The Breakers Hotel" by Paul McGehee. One of the grand old resorts of Ocean City, Maryland. Originally a small, cottage-style hotel on the Boardwalk at the south corner of 3rd Street, The Breakers first opened its doors to vacationers in the World War I era. As years went by, The Breakers grew into the enlargened wooden structure depicted, and remained as such until it was demolished in 2003, only to be replaced by the splendid new Breakers Hotel. For many years it has been known as the location of the popular Dough Roller restaurant on its ground floor, built in the porch area in 1980. The original "Breakers" was always one of Ocean City, Maryland's most frequented seaside lodges, with beautiful, unobstructed views of the beach and the surf. Back in the day, many a wonderful conversation was had in those rocking chairs on the front porch as guests watched beachgoers promenade along the boards, punctuated by the sound of the gulls, the laughter of children at play, the gentle ocean breeze and...the breakers.
