First opening its doors on Memorial Day in 1930, the new hotel at 14th Street on the Boardwalk boasted 62 rooms and a full kitchen with wood-fired stoves. The guests enjoyed the fact that they didn't have to carry their luggage up flights of stairs...as The Commander was Ocean City's first hotel to have an elevator! Many generations have enjoyed sitting on their spacious front porch, enjoying the surf and the sea breeze as people would stroll along the Boardwalk. A few years later, The Commander expanded into a huge two-winged building, and was recently completely rebuilt into the beautiful modern luxury hotel that it is today.
