"Mystic Moonlight" by Paul McGehee. The historic steamer "Sabino" sails down the Mystic River, passing the Mystic Seaport Lighthouse and the schooner "Brilliant" at the beautifully restored waterfront of Connecticut's famous Mystic Seaport. In the distance can be seen the masts of the whaleship "Charles W. Morgan" and the training ship "Joseph Conrad." The steamer "Sabino" was built in 1908 and was originally named "Tourist." She served as a ferry across the Damariscotta River in Maine until she sank after an accident in 1918. After "Tourist" was salvaged from the depths, she was restored to duty and renamed "Sabino" by new owners. Over the years "Sabino" was a familiar sight on Maine's Kennebec River, and later around the waterfront of Portland, taking passengers back and forth to the many tiny islands of Casco Bay. Her long association with Mystic Seaport began in 1975. "Sabino" has become one of the most popular fixtures of the maritime history-themed institution...tourists love to ride the little steamboat; it's like taking a voyage into the past. In 1992, the steamboat "Sabino" was officially named a National Historic Landmark...one of the few "landmarks" listed on that historic register that a person can actually ride upon!
