Nathan's Famous - Coney Island, New York (Paul McGehee)
[Hand-Signed]
$100.00

"Nathan's Famous - Coney Island, New York" by Paul McGehee. In 1916, history was made at the corner of Surf and Stilwell at New York's Coney Island beach resort. Nathan and Ida Handwerker opened "Nathan's Famous" hot dog stand, selling the delicious sandwiches for only a nickel a piece. The "dogs" were made with an irresistable combination of spices handed down by Ida's grandmother. "Nathan's Famous" quickly became a favorite of vacationers to Coney Island. With later years bringing expansion of the chain, "Nathan's" evolved into a brand known throughout the world for the finest in hot dogs. This early evening moonlit view depicts the original "Nathan's Famous" lit by multicolored neon lights, with the legendary "Parachute Jump" ride at Coney Island's defunct "Steeplechase Amusement Park" visible in the background. This location is looked upon by history as the birthplace of the modern-day hot dog...each year on July 4th, a nationally-televised hot dog eating contest is held there to commemorate that fact. "Nathan's Famous - Coney Island, New York" is faithfully reproduced as an archival-quality print from Paul McGehee's original color pencil drawing, issued in a strictly limited edition of only 500 hand-signed pieces. Image size: 10 1/2" x 15".
