"Mount Vernon By Moonlight" by Paul McGehee. George Washington...a man who had been a surveyor, soldier, legislator, Commander-in-Chief during the revolution, and General, had been called upon again by his people. He was elected as the first President of the young United States, a country in a period of turbulence and uncertainty since its assertion of independence from Britain. He served two terms, and almost single-handedly helped to forge a strong foundation for the country to build upon. Throughout his life, the one constant was his magnificent estate on the Potomac River, Mount Vernon. Much of it was designed and built by Washington...it is a true, living reflection of the man and his dreams for a proud new nation. It stands today, preserved for future generations...a symbol of one man's vision; a stately reminder of a nation's proud heritage.
