"Chesapeake Summer" by Paul McGehee depicts a marshy inlet of the Chesapeake Bay in the days of working sail. Maryland's skipjack oyster boats once comprised the nation's largest commercial fleet, numbering over 2,000 at the turn of the century, now there are but a handful left. In the old days, during summer months after oyster season, some skipjacks would haul produce and freight, while others (like the one depicted) would idly ride out the summer, peacefully tied to a dock, sails down and stored...waiting until oyster season would begin again in the fall. "Chesapeake Summer" is faithfully reproduced from Paul's original color pencil drawing as an archival quality print issued in a strictly limited edition of only 2,000 pieces each hand-signed by the artist.
