"Nevis - Golden Glow at Golden Rock" by Paul McGehee. In the Eastern Caribbean lies a gem of an island, Nevis...long known as the "Queen of the Caribees." It is an island paradise of palm trees, waves lapping at the shore, and little monkeys playing in the treetops. Aside from its tropical beauty, Nevis is also rich in history...Alexander Hamilton grew up on Nevis, Horatio Nelson was married on Nevis, and the first skirmish of the young United States Navy occurred off of her shores. The four mile by eight mile island's topography consists of beautiful beaches, rain forests, lush green hillsides and several ruins of old sugar plantations harkening back to the days when the islands led the world in cane sugar production. The famous Golden Rock plantation, now a popular inn and restaurant, boasts many original buildings including an old sugar mill built of stone, over 200 years old. Once it was a working windmill...as its blades turned gently in the wind, it ground sugar cane into a juicy pulp from which everything from refined sugar to molasses and rum would be made. Today, one can stay at the Golden Rock Inn for a romantic visit within the original walls of the old sugar mill, now restored and converted into a lovely two-story cottage overlooking Windward Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. "Nevis - Golden Glow at Golden Rock" is faithfully reproduced as an archival-quality print from McGehee's original color pencil drawing, each hand-signed by the artist.
