"The
Chesapeake Bay Bridge - 1952" by Paul McGehee. A strikingly beautiful
view of the Chesapeake Bay's famous bridge as it appeared over a
half-century ago. The original span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge opened
in July of 1952 and at the time was the longest continuous over-water
steel structure, and the third longest bridge in the world! A second
span of the bridge opened in 1973. Today, now named the "William
Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge" (after the Maryland Governor
credited with heading up the massive project), the bridge connects
Maryland's mainland and the Eastern Shore. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge,
at nearly 4 1/2 miles long, is an icon of the Bay. "The Chesapeake Bay
Bridge - 1952" is faithfully reproduced from McGehee's original color
pencil drawing in a hand-signed limited edition of only 500 prints.
